Cole Porter, one of America’s most reputable composers, was know for his urbane and witty lyrics along with a sinuous melody that verged upon a brooding quality. But an equally typical and equally recognizable Porter song would have a simple, bouncy melody and a lyric based on a long and entertaining list of similarities, opposite or contrasts.
He brought such an individuality of style that a genre known as “the Cole Porter song” became recognized.
Joyce Elaine Yuille teams up with her dedicated band Jazz Inc. to present a tribute with a twist “The Soul of Porter”. A careful selection of Porter’s classic standards, transformed into personal soulful versions, but still respecting the quality and genius of Cole Porter.
