Her voice is both strong and crystal clear. Her bass playing is as funky as it is intense. Add in a jaw-dropping stage persona – and you’ve got something close to bassist Nik West. You never know for sure what she’s up to during a gig: she may do a split with her base or she may do a cover of an AC/DC song.
The legacy of Prince feels extremely present. Just like him, she has a weakness for funk, hard rock and pop – and an extroverted expression that never goes below 100 percent. And of course she has collaborated with the Minneapolis legend. He praised her stage presence which made him “inspired in exactly the same way as Sheila E and Rosie”. Great words from one of music history’s greatest! And it doesn’t end there. Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Quincy Jones are other big names who have been greatly impressed by Nik West and what she can do with her bass.
