Rosalia de Souza is a Brazilian bossa nova singer from Rio de Janeiro. The great passion for music was cultivated by her father. After travelling to Italy at the age of 21, in 1989 she began studying musical theory, Cuban percussions, jazz and jazz history in Rome; de Souza bring a sense of passion and sophistication to each song by acknowledging the subtle grace of Bossa’s legacy. The result is at once contemporary, complimentary and wistfully retro.
Her typical “repertoire” included classical Brazilian authors like Tom Jobin, Baden Powell, Joao Gilberto, Sergio Mendes, Edu Lobo, Joyce, Toquinho, Vinicius De Moraes, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gill, and Chico Buarque among many other great artists.
