Devil…beyond the good inventions of the Italian Style
The italian critic Vittorio Franchini, labeled with these words, the proposal of the quartet of Paolo Fresu
Fresu, Ferra, Dalla Porta and Bagnoli surprise again and again, proposing what seemed to be the most “electric” group of the Italian jazz of the last years, in a completely acoustic version, overturning canons and habits and also the sleepy habits of many critics who find it easy to quickly label a project.
Fresu’s simple but “new” idea is therefore that, in some ways disorienting, to give to the presses a record work decidedly different from the previous ones that just in the fact of being a completely acoustic record and therefore played with completely acoustic instruments (including Bebo Ferra’s guitars and the use of only Bagnoli’s brushes, of which he is a recognized true master) has its strong point.
