New Realease and second debut on Universal/EmArcy Label by Tommaso and his Italian Quartet:’Italian Short Stories – Tommaso Starace plays the photos of Gianni Berengo Gardin.
Tommaso Starace Quartet is back on creating a new Jazz/Photographic project.  In 2005 Tommaso worked on the images produced by the Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt, part of whose fame was due to the irony present in some of his photos. Eight particularly original and diverse photos by Erwitt had inspired as many compositions, which were recorded with his British quintet. In this new CD Tommaso works on the images of one of Italy’s most celebrated photographers Gianni Berengo Gardin who has documented through his evocative black and white images the history of Italy from the early 50’s to now.

14 images taken in different parts of Italy from Milano, Florence, Naples to Venice, Palermo and other cities, have inspired Tommaso and his quartet to compose music that help bring the different stories alive. ‘Italian Short Stories’ is Tommaso’s tribute to his country and to some of his favourite cities. The great trumpeter Paolo Fresu guests on 4 tracks of the CD.
